Il villaggio di Maalula, sulla strada tra Damasco e Homs, è abitato da cattolici di origine greca e da poche decine di persone di lingua aramaica. Maalula è frequentata per il Deir mar Takla, il convento di Santa Tecla addossato ad un ambiente ipogeo.
